Proposal – Week 4

UAL Awarding Body – Level 3 Diploma

Project Proposal

Name – Lacey Anderson
Pathway
Project Title – Objects and ideas
Section 1: Rationale
What are you bringing to this project from what you have learnt on the course so far? approx 100 words)
This section provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your progress and achievements through the first seven units, and the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your project proposal. After doubting myself at the begging of every project I have realised that I am capable of doing it much more then what I think, I have learnt so many new skills from being on this course and I have pushed myself further then I thought I ever could, before I started this course I didn’t know how to set up equipment and record myself in the studio, and now I’m starting to get confident with logic and can confidently do the things that I struggled with in the first couple weeks of the course, I’m happy that now I feel a little more independent and feel as though I am picking things up quickly.I can now add reverb to my tracks and I have done had plenty of practice in double tracking my vocals too, I put this into practice when creating my Nivana track in project 2 and I really enjoyed seeing how much of a difference it can make. I can also record my vocals using an S EX 1 condenser mic and I would definitely say it’s one of my favourite mics to record with. My research has improved compared to the start of the year as I now know a lot more websites and good sources to research from which I always name in my bibliography, I’ve also found that being more independent in my research has helped me to learn so much more!In the future, I wish to achieve my own album that I have recorded and produced myself, with all the skills and knowledge i have and will be learning over the next 2 years I am really excited to make this wish come true, I would like to get more confidence being in the studio on my own and knowing confidently what to do, and also becoming more familiar with logic, I would definitely say that they are my main to goals over the next couple months.
Section 2: Project Concept
Clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that support its development. (approx 200 words)
This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that will support
its development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realisation within the allocated timescale.  Coming into project 3, I was clueless and struggling to find any ideas or inspiration for my project. After long and hard thought I decided that I was going to base my track off a drum beat that I decided to create using cups. I am going to be creating a track that involves using a plastic cup, a salt shaker and any other house hold objects that I may come across that fit well into my track. I have decided to do this because I feel as though I will be able to be really creative with my lyrics and also be creative with adding different sounds to the beat, I make using the cup and by clapping my hands and banging them on the table. Im also going to use lyrics from a song I have already written and I have taken inspiration from an instrumental beat that I have found on YouTube, This beat is a beat that I have already written lyrics too and takes inspiration from Amy Winehouse. You can definitely recognise this when listening to the beat as it is very jazzy but also funky! After creating my 3 minute piece, I have decided that I am going to try to add some saxophone and some samples from logic to bring my track all together.I am also going to use lyrics from a song I have already written and I have taken inspiration from an instrumental beat that I have found on YouTube, after creating my 3 minute piece, I have decided that I am going to try to add some saxophone and some samples from logic to bring it all together. I have done library music  research to help set the context for the  project. I have looked into some in depth research and took inspiration from a movie that I love called pitch perfect. In this movie there is a scene where the main character (Anna Kendrick) performs a song using only a cup and her vocals. I found that this was a good starting point for me to take inspiration and little did I know that I wouldn’t actually end up using a cup but completely going off the idea and started taking inspiration from a song I have previously written myself. I will be furthering my in-depth research looking into sampling and mixing. I will need to also improve my vocal by looking  into  the projection of my voice and microphone technique when recording The equipment that I will be using to create my track will include, a set of keys, a salt shaker, a drum and logic pro software. I am really excited to put all of these objects together and see exactly what it is I am capable of, especially after doubting myself.
Section 3: Evaluation (
How will you reflect and evaluate your work? approx 50 words)
This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on, and evaluate, your work, as both
an on-going activity and at t
he conclusion of the project. You should describe how y
ou intend to record your decision-making and how
 you will document changes
to your ideas as work progresses. The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather then
a description of actions completed. When working in collaboration with others you should comment on how this may impact either positively
or adversely and steps you can take to minimise disruption to your own progress. I have used the advantage of my classmates listening to my track and getting their opinions, my teachers, and myself. By getting advice from my peers and teachers, this will help me to work on any improvements I could make and also take the criticism on bored for any future project I may be completing.  I have also completed a skills audit at the being of this project and there wasn’t many boxes I could tic because I wasn’t sure on the meaning or words at all, but going through the project I am starting to understand what some of the words mean and are, and hopefully by the end of the project I hope to be much more confident with these words and meanings then I was when we started.
Section 5: Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)
Proposed
research sources
and bibliography (Harvard format)
This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, both primary and secondary, that you intend to use. Your sources of research should be as wide as possible, including libraries, museums and galleries, books, theatre/ film/video, magazines, TV/radio programmes, websites etc. Where appropriate you should use the Harvard system of referencing. The bibliography should be continuously updated as the project progresses. Links to your research  Cinesamples. (2021). Beginners Guide to Production and Library Music. [Online]. magazine. UAL Awarding Body Level 3 Diploma Project Proposal Doc.

Reflection

I have found parts of the proposal rather challenging, more so then I have any of the other projects so far. However I feel that because of this it has caused me to push even further to be able to achieve the grade I would like to achieve. I have gone back through my proposal after receiving my feedback from Nick and I have improved the sections he suggested. I expanded on my paragraphs and my information regarding the process I will be taking and the track I have taken inspiration from. I have also stated the equipment and everything I will need to create my track.

Name Lacey AndersonPathway Project Title Section 1: Rationale After doubting myself at the begging of every project I have realised that I am capable of doing it much more then what I think, I have learnt so many new skills from being on this course and I have pushed myself further then I thought I ever could, before I started this course I didn’t know how to set up equipment and record myself in the studio, and now I’m starting to get confident with logic and can confidently do the things that I struggled with in the first couple weeks of the course, I’m happy that now I feel a little more independent and feel as though I am picking things up quickly.I can now add reverb to my tracks and I have done had plenty of practice in double tracking my vocals too, I put this into practice when creating my Nirvana track in project 2 and I really enjoyed seeing how much of a difference it can make. I have also found it more challenging to get my head around the process in general rather than just the write up. Library music is completely new to me, and as much as I have loved learning about it and even creating a piece myself, I do find it very tricky and I hope that after this project I find it less intimidating and have a much better understanding. In the future, I wish to achieve my own album that I have recorded and produced myself, with all the skills and knowledge i have and will be learning over the next 2 years I am really excited to make this wish come true, I would like to get more confidence being in the studio on my own and knowing confidently what to do, and also becoming more familiar with logic, I would definitely say that they are my main to goals over the next couple months.     Section 2: Project Concept The aim of my project is to create a 3 minute track, 2 minute remix and a stripped down mix for a music library basing my track off a drum beat that I decided to create using cups. I am also going to use lyrics from a song I have already written and I have taken inspiration from an instrumental beat that I have found on YouTube, This beat is a beat that I have already written lyrics too and takes inspiration from Amy Winehouse. You can definitely recognise this when listening to the beat as it is very jazzy but also funky! The beat is called “obsessive” and has a vintage sax type beat. I really like how the dynamic of this beat changes from soft saxophone and very jazzy and intimate to then change to a very funky, upbeat and sassy vibe, I personally love this track and think that it describes me very well! I will leave a link below in my bibliography that directs to this track. After creating my 3-minute piece, I have decided that I am going to try to add some saxophone and some samples from logic to bring my track all together.I am also going to use lyrics from a song I have already written and I have taken inspiration from an instrumental beat that I have found on YouTube, after creating my 3 minute piece, I have decided that I am going to try to add some saxophone and some samples from logic to bring it all together. I have done library music research to help set the context for the  project.
